Wednesday, August 26 at 9:30 PM BrigataFolgore.net will return to discuss the Battle of July 2, 1993 in Mogadishu, one of the most important and dramatic pages in recent Italian military history.
After dedicating the episode of July 8 to the Battle of the Pasta Factory from the perspective and experience of a Special Forces raider, our Danilo Amelotti, this time the account will be that of the XV Company "Black Devils", through direct testimonies from two men who were on the ground that day and experienced the battle from different but complementary perspectives.
Guests of the live broadcast will be General Paolo Riccò, at the time a young Captain and Commander of the XV Company "Black Devils", author of the book "The Black Devils. The True Story of the Battle of Mogadishu", and Sergeant Major Tigellio Erdas, Paratrooper of the same Company.
The battle seen from the XV Company "Black Devils"
The objective of the evening will not simply be to reconstruct the chronology of the events of July 2, 1993, but to try to understand what happened through the perspective of those who fought that battle.
On one hand the Company Commander, called upon to make decisions in a situation that was rapidly changing on the ground; on the other, one of his Paratroopers, who lived those decisions directly in the heart of the clashes.
The account will also start from the weeks preceding the battle: from the training, from the arrival in Somalia, from the evolution of the mission and from the signs that preceded that day.
We will then reach the clashes of July 2, the movement towards the Pasta Factory area, the fighting, the problems encountered on the ground and the consequences on the men of the XV Company, during and after the battle.
Two direct testimonies
More than thirty years later, the Battle of the Pasta Factory continues to represent a fundamental passage in the recent history of the Italian Army.
Riccò and Erdas will allow us to retrace those events without relying on "third-party" reconstructions, but through the memory of those who were present.
A testimony that will also allow addressing lesser-known aspects of the battle: the preparation of the units, communications, decisions made during the clashes, the relationship between commanders and men, and what that experience left in the protagonists in the years that followed.
Hosted by Alex Generotti and Danilo Amelotti
The live broadcast will be hosted by paratrooper Alex Generotti, assisted by retired raider Danilo Amelotti, also a veteran of the Battle of July 2, 1993.
The presence of Amelotti will allow further enriching the discussion with the perspective of those who directly experienced the events of Mogadishu.
The audience will be able to participate with their own questions
As in previous BrigataFolgore.net live broadcasts, this time too the audience will be able to actively participate in the transmission.
During the evening it will be possible to send questions to the guests through the comments on YouTube and Facebook live streams.
The appointment is therefore for:
