The Army triumphs at the Absolute Swimming Championships: 36 medals and historic records in Riccione

A shower of medals, broken records and outstanding performances. At the Italian Absolute Swimming Championships, just concluded in Riccione, the athletes of the Army wrote an extraordinary page of sport and national pride. As many as 36 times the star-studded champions climbed the podium, bringing home a haul that speaks for itself: 22 gold medals, 5 silver and 9 bronze. Staggering numbers, but that's not all: these Assoluti have consecrated the Army Sports Group as a true hothouse of talent and an absolute protagonist of Italian swimming.

Among the names that shone brightest was certainly that of the very young C.le VFP4 Sara Curtis. La 18enne piemontese, già protagonista alle Olimpiadi di Parigi 2024 con la staffetta 4×100 stile libero, ha impressionato per maturità, determinazione e classe. A Riccione ha conquistato ben quattro medaglie d’oro: nei 50 e 100 m stile libero, nei 50 m dorso e nella staffetta 4×100 stile libero femminile. Ma soprattutto ha riscritto la storia, stabilendo il nuovo record italiano nei 100 m stile libero e battendo nientemeno che il primato della leggenda Federica Pellegrini. Non paga, ha poi migliorato il proprio record nei 50 m stile libero, fermando il cronometro a 24″43: è la seconda prestazione mondiale dell’anno, ad appena un centesimo dal tempo della belga Florine Gaspard.

Golden relays and champion individuals

Alongside Sara Curtis, in the golden relay, other stars of the Army: il C.le Magg. VFP4 Sofia Morini, il C.le Magg. VFP4 Emma Virginia Menicucci e il Grd. Sc. Giulia Verona. Il quartetto ha dominato anche nella 4×200 stile libero, confermando un’alchimia perfetta e una preparazione eccellente. Tra le fila maschili, altra prova maiuscola è arrivata dalla staffetta 4×100 stile libero: con il C.le VFP4 Christian Bacico, il Grd. Lorenzo Zazzeri, il Grd. Federico Burdisso e il Grd. Alessandro Pinzuti. Anche per loro medaglia d’oro e nuovo record italiano.

Christian Bacico was one of the stars of the Assoluti 2025, winning three golds in the 50, 100 and 200 m backstroke. A hat-trick that consecrates the 19-year-old from Lombardy among the new phenomena of Italian swimming. "These are tough days, but I did well to hold my own," he said excitedly after his victory in the 200 backstroke. "I did not expect to win three absolute Italian titles and for that I am proud. I dedicate these successes to my coach Verika and my family."

Non è stato da meno il Grd. Federico Burdisso, che ha ripreso il suo cammino vincente nei 100 m farfalla, gara in cui è stato bronzo olimpico a Tokyo. Con una nuotata intelligente e il solito finale esplosivo, ha chiuso in 51″83 davanti a un ritrovato Alberto Razzetti. Per Burdisso si tratta di un ritorno al vertice, frutto anche del recente ritorno agli allenamenti con Simone Palombi, il coach con cui aveva già scritto pagine importanti.

Between promise and veterans, the value of the team

Also on the top step of the podium were C.le Magg. VFP4 Francesca Fangio, first in the 200 breaststroke, C.le Magg. VFP4 Davide Marchello, who won the 800 m freestyle, and Grd. Pier Andrea Matteazzi, gold in the 400 m mixed. These results confirm the value and depth of the Army team.

Ma gli Assoluti di Riccione 2025 hanno offerto molto di più di una semplice classifica. Hanno raccontato storie di riscatto, sacrificio e passione. Come quella di Anita Gastaldi, nuova regina dei 100 dorso, che dopo il secondo posto nei 200 misti ha centrato il titolo italiano con il personale in 1’00″46. O quella di Paola Borrelli, vincitrice nei 200 farfalla con il personale in 2’08″94, a conferma di un talento ancora tutto da esplorare.

Tra i nuovi volti che promettono di fare strada, anche Carlos D’Ambrosio, che ha trionfato nei 200 stile libero in 1’46″32, dimostrando maturità e sangue freddo. «Una vittoria ottenuta con la testa e con il cuore, più che con la condizione fisica», ha dichiarato l’atleta vicentino delle Fiamme Gialle, reduce da un’influenza ma capace comunque di imporsi su nomi blasonati come Filippo Megli e Marco De Tullio.

The Army Sports Group, once again, confirms itself among the excellences of Italian sport.
