In the Court of Honor of the Army Officers School, one of the most significant ceremonies in the training path of Officers took place in recent days: the presentation of the weapon specialty insignia to the 105 Officers attending the 204th Course “Volontà”. A solemn moment that symbolically marks the transition from academic training to the imminent deployment in the operational units of the Italian Army.

For the first time, the young Second Lieutenants wore the specialty headgear, emblematic of belonging to a Weapon and a professional community founded on history, values, and traditions. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Combat and Weapon Associations, whose presence strengthened the bond between past and present, creating an ideal bridge between generations of Officers.

The name “Volontà” recalls an essential quality for those called to lead men and women in complex contexts: inner discipline, perseverance, and a sense of duty. In this context, the presentation of the insignia represents the conscious assumption of a commitment to the Institution, subordinates, and the Nation.

The Words of the Commanders and the Value of “Una Acies”

In his speech, the Commander for Training, Specialization, and Army Doctrine, Lieutenant General Antonello Vespaziani, emphasized how the presentation of the distinctive specialty signs constitutes one of the last and most important steps before operational deployment. A transition that entails a new responsibility: to exalt and defend the traditions and honor of one's Weapon, while maintaining a unified vision of service.

Lieutenant General Vespaziani recalled the concept of “Una Acies”, the spirit of cohesion that must unite all Officers of the Italian Army. Beyond the specificities of Weapon and specialty, the goal remains the common good of the Armed Force and the Country, the guiding principle of military action.

The Commander of the Army Officers School, Major General Giovanni Brafa Musicoro, also highlighted the high symbolic value of the ceremony, emphasizing the importance of the presence of the Combat and Weapon Associations, custodians of historical memory and military values. In his wishes to the young members of the 204th Course “Volontà”, he expressed confidence in a brilliant career, rich in professional and human satisfaction, in the name of honor and service.

Tradition, Continuity, and Responsibility Towards the Future

Particularly significant was the speech by the regional representative of the Permanent National Council of Weapon Associations, Lieutenant General (ret.) Flaviano Godio, who reminded how this ceremony is destined to remain etched in the memory of all Officers of the 204th Course.

The culminating moment of the event featured the “senior” Second Lieutenants of the 203rd Course “Lealtà”, who handed over to their colleagues of the 204th Course the headgear and insignia of the various weapon specialties, symbolizing continuity and the passing of the baton within the Officers' community.

At the end of the ceremony, the Senior Officers of the Weapons and specialties serving at COMFORDOT, along with representatives of the Combat and Weapon Associations, engaged with the young Second Lieutenants, recalling the historical traditions of each specialty and imparting valuable advice for a future of service to the Nation. It is in this dialogue between experience and youth that the strength of the Italian Army is renewed, capable of looking to the future without forgetting its roots.
