The 46th Air Brigade paid tribute to its Fallen with a gesture full of historical and human significance: the G-222 transport aircraft, restored and positioned at the entrance of the Pisa base, was inaugurated as a permanent memorial on the occasion of National Unity and Armed Forces Day.
The inauguration, which took place on November 4th, celebrates not only a prestigious page in the history of the Italian Air Force, but above all the sacrifice of the men and women of the 46th Brigade who, over the years, have served the country aboard this aircraft, operating in complex missions in Italy and abroad and, in some cases, giving their lives in the name of duty.
A ceremony in the spirit of remembrance
The day began with Holy Mass at the Kindu Shrine, a symbolic place of remembrance for the Fallen of the Italian Air Force. Subsequently, at the historic “Ramp 0” of the base, the official inauguration ceremony of the G-222 was held, now transformed into a monument dedicated to the colors of the Brigade and the values that distinguish it.
Present were the families of the Fallen, the personnel in service, and numerous military authorities, including:
- Gen. S.A. Silvano Frigerio, Commander of the Air Squadron Command – 1st Air Region
- Gen. D.A. Alessandro De Lorenzo, Commander of the Mobility and Support Forces (CFMS)
- Gen. B.A. Luca Mazzini, Commander of the 46th Air Brigade

The G-222: once an operational tool, now a guardian of memory
A symbol aircraft of Italian military tactical transport, the G-222 has been a protagonist of decades of humanitarian, operational, and logistical missions in Italy and around the world. Today, in its new location, it becomes a silent witness to that tradition of commitment, professionalism, and spirit of sacrifice that characterizes the 46th Air Brigade.
Its restoration and enhancement represent an ideal bridge between past, present, and future: a living memory for those who served with honor, an inspiration for new generations called to follow its example.
