On July 18, 2025, the United States Army announced the awarding of a financial prize of 99.6 million dollars to "Team Anduril", composed of Anduril and various industrial partners, for the development of the Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2) system prototype, a strategic initiative aimed at redefining command and control in future military operations. The funding, which covers a period of 11 months, was provided through a transaction authority (OTA) and was awarded by the Program Executive Office Command, Control, Communications, and Network (PEO C3N).

The NGC2 initiative: a new era in command and control

NGC2 is not just a new operational capability, but a true plan for the realization of future Army systems. Gen. James Rainey, Commander of the Army Futures Command, emphasized that NGC2 constitutes "a blueprint for how we will provide the Army systems of the future". The system will integrate intelligence, command and control (C2), and fire systems into a single platform, allowing commanders to have real-time information and support faster and more precise decisions.

Anduril, a leading company in the field of advanced defense technologies, will lead the creation of the NGC2 prototype, along with a selected group of industrial partners, including Palantir, Striveworks, Govini, Instant Connect Enterprise, Research Innovations Inc., and Microsoft. The goal of Team Anduril is to develop an ecosystem that allows the rapid integration of different technologies into a unified architecture, ensuring that soldiers can access real-time computing, communication, and information processing capabilities. In this way, critical decisions can be made more quickly, improving the connection between soldiers and optimizing operations at the corps and company level.

An experimentation process culminating in rapid prototyping

The awarding of the OTA follows an intense "competitive experimentation" process lasting 18 months, which saw Anduril participate in 2023 in the PCC5 project (Project Coverage 5 Capstone). In this context, various suppliers showcased their solutions for the NGC2 system. The rapid implementation of the prototype with the 4th Infantry Division marks a fundamental step towards the future scalability of the system at the divisional and inter-brigade level, with the intent to use NGC2 as the main C2 system during the PCC6 exercise scheduled for next summer.

Although the leadership of the NGC2 initiative has not yet been fully defined, the program will follow a collaborative approach, described as a "team of teams". This means that Anduril, while being one of the main players, will not be the sole leader of the project, but part of a network of collaboration among various suppliers and industrial partners. This approach reflects a new development philosophy that emphasizes collaboration, speed, and mutual trust.

Next steps and opportunities for other suppliers

Additionally, PEO C3N announced that further opportunities are planned through the Commercial Solutions Opening (CSO), an initiative that will allow the participation of additional suppliers and supplier teams for NGC2, with additional OTAs planned for other units, including the 25th Infantry Division and the III Corps Headquarters.

With the evolution of NGC2, the Army aims to ensure that command and control capabilities are continuously updated and enhanced to face future challenges. Through an ongoing process of collaboration with the industrial sector, the armament of the future becomes an increasingly concrete reality ready for combat.
