However, the names were not made public to favour the element of surprise in the arrest. The method had already proved effective with Almasri, stopped in Turin by the Digos on 19 January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Almasri Case and the AISE Manoeuvres in Libya<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In this context, the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sicurezzanazionale.gov.it\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.sicurezzanazionale.gov.it\/\" rel=\"noopener\">External Intelligence and Security Agency (AISE)<\/a>is stepping up its operations to ensure national security and protect Italian interests abroad. In fact, the Chief himself, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unich.it\/sites\/default\/files\/2024-02\/caravelli.pdf\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.unich.it\/sites\/default\/files\/2024-02\/caravelli.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\">John Caravelli<\/a>he travelled to Tripoli on 28 January for a meeting with the Libyan government. The main objective of the AISE was to avoid new diplomatic incidents such as the arrest and immediate release of Almasri. Caravelli had a long conversation with the Libyan premier <strong>Abdulhamid Dabaiba<\/strong> and the chief prosecutor of Tripoli, Al Sidiq al Sour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Libyan activist Husam el Gomati revealed to the programme Piazzapulita on <em>La7<\/em> that after the repatriation of Almasri, a senior Italian intelligence officer visited Libya. El Gomati, known for his denunciations, is among those intercepted by the spyware <em>Graphite<\/em> also sold by an Israeli company to the Italian government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, the <a href=\"https:\/\/parlamento18.camera.it\/220\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/parlamento18.camera.it\/220\" rel=\"noopener\">the Parliamentary Committee for the Security of the Republic<\/a> (COPASIR), summoned Caravelli for clarification of the case <em>Paragon<\/em>  and on the handling of the Almasri-Libya dossier.
