After <a href=\"https:\/\/brigatafolgore.net\/en\/italy-will-reach-2-of-gdp-in-military-spending-as-early-as-2025\/\">the announcement<\/a> of Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti on increasing defence spending to 2% of GDP, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro S\u00e1nchez, at the end of the Council of Ministers, announced the approval of the <em>Industrial and Technological Plan for Security and Defence<\/em>. An ambitious project that will lead Spain to finally reach the <strong>2% of GDP in military expenditure by 2025<\/strong>as requested by NATO for over a decade now. A goal postponed for years, now a reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it is no coincidence that the announcement comes immediately after the Italian one: Italy has made the move, and this time Spain has not stood by and watched. Rheinmetall will transform its production plant in Spain into one of the largest in Europe.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Defence and welfare can coexist<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>S\u00e1nchez wanted to clarify: <strong>strengthening security does not mean sacrificing the welfare state<\/strong>.<br>The manoeuvre will be covered through:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Remodulation of PNRR funds<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Budget surpluses thanks to economic growth<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Unused residual funds from previous budgets<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Possible support mechanisms from the European Commission<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>With this plan, Spain asserts itself as a central player in European security, especially <strong>for the efficient use of resources<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>S\u00e1nchez, in a message also addressed to his coalition, reiterates that <em>\"Spain is a pacifist country, but believes in deterrence\".<\/em>.
