In recent days, the Italian Army, through the qualified and specialised work of the sapper sappers belonging to the8th Parachute Engineer Regiment 'Folgore'The Italian Army, the 10th Guastatori Engineer Regiment in Cremona and the 4th Engineer Regiment of the Aosta Brigade, carried out essential operations to clear and destroy war devices in various regions of Italy, namely Sicily, Lombardy and Veneto. These public utility operations highlight the Army's important role in protecting the safety of citizens in the event of risks from war remnants.
In Santa Ninfa, in the province of Trapani, technicians handled with extreme precision and professionalism the neutralisation of a 600-pound (approx. 272 kg) aeroplane bomb, with more than 150 kg of explosive material. The device was subsequently moved to a quarry far from inhabited areas for its destruction, thus ensuring public safety.
In Lombardy, in the municipality of Marcaria (MN), two World War II aeroplane bombs of 500 pounds each (227 kg), containing 144 kg of explosives, were found. The discovery occurred during agricultural work near the Piadena-Mantova railway line. Once again, the Army personnel acted with determination and skill, neutralising the dangerous remnants in complete safety.
The city of Verona witnessed a similar intervention with the neutralisation of another World War II aeroplane bomb, this time a 100-pound (approx. 45 kg) bomb with high explosive potential. The device was found during construction work on a power plant. Clean-up operations required the precautionary evacuation of the surrounding area and a ban on overflying to ensure maximum safety.
These interventions underline the efficiency and readiness of the Italian Armed Forces in responding to emergency situations and actively contributing to the security of the national territory. The Italian Army, thanks to its versatility and operational capacity, confirms itself as an indispensable resource not only in war contexts but also in supporting the civilian community, demonstrating a constant commitment to the protection of public safety.
The professionalism and effectiveness with which these clearance operations were conducted demonstrate the high degree of preparation and dedication of the Army Corps of Engineers, fundamental elements in the management of risks from war remnants on national territory. These activities are concrete examples of how the commitment of the Armed Forces extends far beyond the battlefield, contributing significantly to the protection and welfare of citizens.
