The Commander of the Italian Army Land Operations Forces (abbreviated to COMFOTER) Army Corps General Gaetano Zaunerrecently continued its cycle of fact-finding meetings at Land Operations Forces units, stopping at Folgore Parachute Brigade.
On 18 June, General Zauner received the Commander of the 'Folgore', Brigadier General Massimiliano Mongilloa detailed update on the main operational activities of the Large Unit. During the visit, the COMFOTER Commander had the opportunity to meet the personnel of the 184th Command and Tactical Support Unit "Nembo", of the Multifunctional Training Complex "Lustrissimi" and of the 187th Parachute Regiment 'Folgore' stationed in Livorno. The following day, the delegation travelled to Pisa to visit the Parachute Training Centre (CAPAR)the only Defence institution dedicated to aviation training, and the Air Force Museum, located on the same site.
Currently, the 'Folgore' Parachute Brigade is engaged in a wide range of activities, from participation in international missions, with presences in almost all operational theatres where the Italian Armed Forces are involved, to cooperation for territorial control within the Operation Safe Streets. The latter activity sees the involvement of the 'Folgore' in the squares of Rome and in the regions of Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Umbria and Marche.
Also noteworthy is the commitment to training activities, both nationally and internationally, which are fundamental for the 'Folgore' Brigade in order to maintain high standards of interoperability and operability, crucial for joint operations with allied countries in the so-called airborne community.
The Brigata Paracadutisti Folgore is renowned for its high level of technical and professional preparation and the excellent psychophysical characteristics of its personnel, making it one of the Italian Army's main resources, capable of guaranteeing a rapid response and intervention in crisis and emergency situations, deploying operational units in a short time in any scenario.
From 1 May 2024, the COMFOTER assumed the role of Operational Area Summitunder the direction of four Army Corps: the Alpine Troops Command Bolzano, the Operational Forces Command South Naples, the Northern Operations Forces Command, Padua and the Operational Support Force Command Verona. This reorganisation further strengthens the command and control capability, ensuring effective and coordinated management of the Italian Army's resources and operational units. The COMFOTER also has several Commands under its direct command, including the Army Aviation Command (AVES) and the Army Special Forces Command (COMFOSE).
