The 132nd Tank Regiment, the Italian representative in this important operation, has been deployed in Bulgaria with the aim of contributing to strengthening the Atlantic Alliance's deterrence and defence posture. The Italian tank crew, trained and highly specialised, operate on board the C1 'Ariete' tank, which is the main combat platform. It should be noted that this is the first time the 'Ariete' tank is deployed in a foreign mission since its participation in the Ancient Babylon mission in Iraq.
All operations and exercises conducted by the Italian Armed Forces on the NATO Eastern Front are planned by the Chief of Defence Staff and are coordinated and directed by the Inter-Forces Summit Operations Command (COVI), thus ensuring effective synergy and optimal coordination of the resources deployed.
This training not only strengthens the operational capabilities of Italian units but also contributes significantly to the security and collective defence of the Atlantic Alliance. The commitment and professionalism demonstrated by the forces involved testify to Italy's continued commitment to ensuring stability and security in the region, in line with NATO's objectives and ideals.
